DAV Bistupur to host CBSE Zonal Chess tournament from Oct 6

800 students from 81 schools to participate

Jamshedpur, Oct 4: DAV Public School Bistupur is gearing up to host CBSE Zonal chess Tournament, a three day chess bonanza from 6th to 8th October 2017 where more than 800 students from 81 CBSE schools are likely to participate, said, Pragya Singh, principal of DAV Bistupur.

Addressing a press conference in the school premises on Wednesday, Singh said, the event will witness a maximum participation of 458 students from the state of UP followed by Bihar with 113 participants and Jharkhand with 198 participants.
‘Sports events of this level have always been a platform to inculcate discipline, fellowship, team-spirit and a sense of bonhomie amongst players’, added Singh.

She further said that the school premises itself would be the place of stay for a total of 220 girls and 549 boys along with their escorts and officials participating in the tournament.

Replying to a question, Pragya Singh informed that East Singhbhum district chess association is assisting by providing officials for the tournament.

Principal went on to say that in order to ensure that the rules and laws of chess are adhered to, four Arbiters, recognised by World Chess federation would be judging the tournament.

The inaugural ceremony will be held on 6th October at 9 am in the school premises where SK Luthra, regional director, DAV Public Schools Jharkhand Zone F, will be the chief guest and Sanjay Kumar Singh, the officially appointed CBSE observer will also grace the occasion, she added.
