Jamshedpur, August 17: The Model United Nations Conference (DBMUN 2024) at DAV Public School, Bistupur, Jamshedpur, concluded its successful run on 17th August 2024. The Decennial Negotiation Summit, which began at 8:00 am, wrapped up with its closing ceremony starting at 11:30 am. The conference, held over two days, effectively embodied its theme, “It is humanity that weaves the threads of unity to shape a better world,” emphasizing the importance of the skills, friendships, and perspectives gained by the delegates rather than just the resolutions passed.
On the final day, delegates demonstrated their problem-solving and analytical skills through vigorous debates on a range of crises. The sessions covered various committees, each tackling significant global issues.
In the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), discussions focused on stabilizing the Middle East amidst ongoing tensions. Resolutions were passed advocating for border establishment through bilateral talks, disarmament in conflict zones, and the creation of UN-sponsored refugee camps. Economic and humanitarian measures were also proposed to address regional needs.
The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) addressed criminal violence in Latin America and the Caribbean. Resolutions called for vocational training programs, stricter laws against armed groups, and peacekeeping camps in high-crime areas.
The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UNWOMEN) tackled issues related to women’s health and sexual labor. Resolutions included decriminalizing sex work, implementing harm reduction strategies, and improving healthcare and support services for women.
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) discussed enhancing Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to align with the Paris Agreement. The resolutions proposed increased financial support for climate adaptation, reforming financial targets, and supporting climate innovations and disaster relief efforts.
The All India Political Parties’ Meet (AIPPM) debated the federal structure and reservation policies in India. Resolutions focused on improving state functioning, ensuring fair fund allocation, and implementing mechanisms to track spending.
The conference concluded with delegates showcasing their commitment to diplomacy and global issues, reflecting the event’s spirit and success.
