Bhabha Atomic Research Center scientists lecture at Jamshedpur Women’s University

Jamshedpur, August 17: Jamshedpur Women’s University hosted a lecture featuring Dr. D. Aswal, Director of the Health Safety and Environment Group at Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC). The event was welcomed by Registrar Shri Rajendra Kumar Jaiswal, with the Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Anjila Gupta presenting Dr. Aswal with a plant and a symbolic gift. Prof. Gupta emphasized the importance of such opportunities for female students to familiarize themselves with BARC’s working environment and nuclear science, suggesting that a potential MoU could further benefit the students.

Dr. Aswal addressed common misconceptions about radiation, clarifying that not all radiation is harmful. He explained that while gamma rays are prevalent in the environment, they are only dangerous at elevated levels. He praised nuclear energy as the cleanest form of energy, highlighting its lack of CO2 emissions and lower risk of accidents. Dr. Aswal also lauded BARC’s significant contributions to advancing scientific knowledge in India.

The session included a Q&A segment where students’ queries were answered, and study materials were distributed. Development Officer Dr. Salomi Kujur delivered the vote of thanks. The event was attended by scientists, Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty, and students, and was successfully conducted by Sudipta Rani.
