Dabistan-e-Jamshedpur Organises Mushaira Honouring Renowned Urdu Poet Zaki Hashmi

Jamshedpur: Dabistan-e-Jamshedpur, a prominent literary organisation of the steel city, hosted a poetic gathering (mushaira) in honour of noted Urdu poet Zaki Hashmi of Gopalganj at its office hall in Jawahar Nagar. The event highlighted the city’s growing contribution to contemporary Urdu literature.

The programme was presided over by Ahmed Badr, while Hasan Imam Mallik, Sports Manager at Tata Steel, attended as the special guest. The poetic session was conducted by Dabistan-e-Jamshedpur patron and poet Gauhar Aziz.

Introducing the guest poet, Gauhar Aziz informed the audience that Dr Zaki Hashmi is a professor at Urdu College, Gopalganj, and has made significant contributions to Urdu literature and education. He noted that Zaki Hashmi is widely respected for his participation in mushairas across India and for his distinctive poetic voice.

As per tradition, poets from Jamshedpur presented their compositions first, followed by the guest poet. Zaki Hashmi captivated the audience with his ghazals and couplets, earning warm applause for his literary depth and expression.

Poets who recited their works included Saif Ali Saif, Hasrat Nizami, Safdar Haroon, Shoaib Akhtar, Sarfaraz Shad, Farhan Khan Farhan, Saddam Ghani, Gauhar Aziz, and Ahmed Badr. Safiullah Safi from Hyderabad joined the programme online and recited his ghazal.

At the start of the event, Dabistan-e-Jamshedpur felicitated the guest poet with a bouquet, shawl, and memento. Expressing his gratitude, Zaki Hashmi praised the organisation’s efforts and described the Urdu poetry being written in Jamshedpur as high-quality and meaningful literature. He said the city’s Urdu literary environment is truly distinctive.

The programme concluded with the presidential address by Professor Ahmed Badr, while Farhan Khan Farhan delivered the vote of thanks.
