Jamshedpur, June 30: A cyclone originating from the Bay of Bengal has now reached eastern Jharkhand, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue a heavy rain alert for at least 18 districts on July 1 and 2.
According to Scientist Abhishek Anand from the Meteorological Center in Ranchi, heavy rainfall is expected in northeastern and adjoining central parts of Jharkhand. The forecast indicates significant rain continuing on July 2 and July 3 across many regions.
The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in districts including Dhanbad, Giridih, Deoghar, Dumka, Godda, Jamtara, Pakur, and Sahibganj of Santal Pargana on July 1 and 2. Koderma, Hazaribagh, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Lohardaga, Latehar, Chatra, Palamu, and Garhwa districts are also under the yellow alert.
The maximum temperatures in Jharkhand are expected to drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next 24 hours, with no significant change expected for the following 3-4 days. Vishnugarh in Hazaribagh recorded the highest rainfall of 118.3 mm in the past 24 hours.
Despite the onset of monsoon, Jharkhand has received rainfall amounting to only 61 percent of the normal expected amount. The state, which should have received 189.5 mm of rainfall by June 30, has recorded only 73.5 mm so far. Notably, Godda has experienced the lowest rainfall, with a deficit of 78 percent compared to normal levels.
