Jamshedpur, October 25: Cyclone Dana, originating from the Bay of Bengal, has significantly impacted the Kolhan division, including Jamshedpur. The effects began on Thursday and continued into Friday, with strong winds causing uprooting trees and damaging many flimsy houses. Continuous gusts of wind are being reported across all three districts, leading residents to stay indoors.

The Meteorological Department had issued warnings ahead of the cyclone’s impact. As a precautionary measure, all government and private schools in East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, and Saraikela-Kharsawan districts were closed on Friday. Many rural areas were experiencing power outages, with the electricity department suspending supply in Chaibasa due to strong winds, leaving several villages without electricity. In response, the department has canceled all employee leaves.

In the Kiriburu area of Saranda, near the Odisha-Jharkhand border, the cyclone’s impact was particularly severe, with numerous fallen trees blocking traffic. Residents were venturing out only when necessary, as the area was shrouded in dense fog, creating near-darkness during the day and prompting vehicles to use headlights.

The cyclone has also disrupted road and rail transport. Vehicle speeds have been reduced and strong winds were making driving difficult. Train services were affected as well, with many trains running late and several services from Bhubaneswar and Puri to Jharkhand canceled. The Meteorological Department has indicated that the cyclone’s effects will be most pronounced in the Kolhan division, issuing an orange alert for the area.
