Cutting of trees opposed in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: Residents of the Telco area strongly opposed the cutting down of trees at the Jemco ground by Tata Steel management on Friday. The locals demanded that the company present written permission from the Forest Department before proceeding with the tree cutting. Without proper authorization, they refused to allow any further removal of trees and halted the ongoing work.

The trees, which had been standing for over 40 years, were being cut down as part of a project reportedly aimed at constructing a main road. The protest intensified as agitated residents stopped the work and insisted on official documentation. Upon receiving information about the disruption, a team from the company management arrived at the scene to address the issue.
The company officials explained that the tree cutting was necessary for the planned road construction. However, the residents, including women present at the site, expressed dissatisfaction with the explanation. They pointed out that the area serves as the only playground for the large population of the surrounding neighborhoods.
The residents also voiced concerns over the ongoing fencing of the playground by Tata Steel management, fearing that the space may no longer remain accessible to the public.
