Jamshedpur, Dec 13: A three-day cultural festival was ceremoniously inaugurated at the Tulsi Bhavan auditorium on December 12 under the joint aegis of the Dramatic Association of Tata Employees and the multilingual literary organisation Sahyog. The festival, being held on December 12, 13 and 14, follows a long-standing tradition of promoting theatre and literature in the city.
On the opening day, the renowned literary work “Mahabhoj” by acclaimed writer Mannu Bhandari was staged with great impact and received an overwhelming response from the audience. Published in 1979, Mahabhoj is considered a landmark novel that sharply reflects the realities of Indian politics and society. The play highlights issues such as abuse of power, exploitation of Dalits, political opportunism and the growing nexus between politics and crime. Inspired by real-life incidents like the Belchi massacre, the story presents a strong conflict between idealism and corruption.

The play was directed by noted theatre and film artist Anuj Prasad, whose experienced and sensitive direction added depth and intensity to the performance. The actors delivered powerful portrayals that kept the audience engaged throughout.
The cast included Anjani Nidhi, Shashi Prakash Pandey, Pankaj Jha, Satnam Kaur, Anuj Kumar, Kanhaiya Kumar, Anurag, Satbir, Indranil Hajra, Satyajit Singh, Pooja Chaudhary, T. Ganesh, Partho Das, Mona, Vikas, Suman, Khushid, Sushma Prabha Singh and Mohammad Nizam. Mohammad Nizam, who played the narrator, received special appreciation for his impactful performance.
Several senior and eminent theatre personalities from the city were present and praised the successful staging of the play.
