CSR projects must be grassroots-oriented and sustainable: Jamshedpur DC

Jamshedpur: A review meeting on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects was held at the Collectorate auditorium under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi. The meeting assessed the progress of ongoing and proposed CSR initiatives in the district, with a focus on livelihood promotion, education, health, and skill development. Representatives of various companies and institutions shared updates on their initiatives.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that CSR should not be treated as a formality but as a powerful tool for the overall development of society. “Our focus must be on making projects public-friendly, long-term, and result-oriented. Education, health, and livelihood promotion schemes should directly benefit the most vulnerable sections of society,” he said.

He directed companies to give priority to initiatives like educational tours for government school children, smart classrooms, digital learning, and scholarship schemes. In the health sector, he highlighted the need for corporate cooperation in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy and mental health cases, along with nutrition programs and maternal and child health services. Under livelihood promotion, emphasis was placed on supporting women’s groups, self-employment, agriculture-based activities, and skill training.

The Deputy Commissioner also instructed companies to align their projects with the district administration and submit regular progress reports. It was further decided that the district administration will evaluate the impact of CSR projects to ensure quality, transparency, and accountability.

Appealing to corporates to expand their reach, he said, “CSR should not remain confined to urban areas. Companies must extend their initiatives to remote rural areas so that the rays of development touch every corner of society.”
