CSIR-NML Jamshedpur signs landmark MoU with Eyantram for e-waste recycling in India

Jamshedpur, March 24: CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur, has taken a major step toward sustainable e-waste management by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M/s Eyantram Waste Management Private Limited, Visakhapatnam. The agreement facilitates the establishment of an advanced e-waste recycling plant utilizing NML’s cutting-edge technology to process waste printed circuit boards (PCBs) and extract valuable metals like copper, aluminum, and gold.

The MoU was signed on Monday, marking a significant milestone in India’s e-waste management sector. Eyantram Waste Management will implement the “Zero Waste” concept, which aims to reduce environmental pressure while organizing the unregulated e-waste collection and disposal industry. The technology being transferred is eco-friendly and is expected to create employment opportunities for youth, streamline waste management, and enable municipal bodies to dispose of e-waste efficiently.

A distinguished panel of experts from CSIR-NML was present at the signing event, including Director Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Project Leader Dr. Manis Kumar Jha, Head of MER Dr. Sanjay Kumar, and researchers Dr. Jhumki Hait, Dr. Ankur Sharma, Dr. Rekha Panda, and Ms. Karina Rani. Business Head Dr. S.K. Under this partnership, NML’s advanced technology will be utilized at Eyantram’s recycling facility, allowing India to process e-waste like leading global economies such as China, Japan, the U.S., and South Korea. The initiative is expected to significantly curb environmental pollution caused by hazardous materials present in e-waste while also facilitating the recovery of valuable non-ferrous metals.

Expressing his excitement about the collaboration, Eyantram Waste Management Director Aashish Lohia stated, “I am thrilled to be part of this transformative initiative, bringing CSIR-NML’s PCB recycling technology to the forefront of e-waste management in India. Our goal is to create a pollution-free society while conserving natural resources for future generations.”

CSIR-NML Director Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury emphasized the importance of indigenous innovation, stating, “NML has successfully transferred several homegrown technologies to Indian companies. We hope to continue expanding partnerships to establish India as a leader in e-waste management.”

Project Head Dr. Manis Kumar Jha reiterated NML’s commitment to sustainability, saying, “Our team is proud to contribute to the Government of India’s Clean India Mission. With effective implementation, this technology will not only help clean the environment but also generate employment for the youth.”
