Jamshedpur: A political storm has erupted after Jharkhand Education Minister Ramdas Soren declared Raghubar Nagar in Burmamines illegal. BJP Burma Mines Mandal President Suraj Singh strongly criticized the minister’s statement, calling it misleading and lacking historical understanding.

Suraj Singh accused the minister of presenting half-baked knowledge in the legislative assembly and attempting to erase the struggles of the people. He reminded that in 2004, then Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajay Kumar (now a Congress leader and candidate for the East Assembly) had attempted to demolish Long Town Colony in Jamshedpur by erecting a boundary wall overnight. However, the residents fiercely resisted and with the support of then MLA Raghubar Das, they fought for over a year. Eventually, Tata Steel conceded and then Managing Director B. Muthuraman provided land in Ruiya Pahad Basti along with electricity and water facilities for rehabilitation.

As a tribute to this people’s struggle and the efforts of Raghubar Das, the colony was named Raghubar Nagar.

Singh lambasted Minister Soren, stating that JMM leaders frequently mislead the House without facts. He firmly declared that Raghubar Nagar stands as a symbol of the people’s resilience and hard work and no one can label it as illegal.

Warning the JMM-Congress government, Singh asserted that if such unjust actions continue, BJP and the residents of Raghubar Nagar will take to the streets in protest, ensuring a strong public response against this dictatorial approach.
