Jamshedpur, March 24: A two-day professional training program on ‘Welding of Materials & Non-destructive Evaluation of Joint Quality (WMN-2022)’ was initiated by CSR- National Metallurgical laboratory, Jamshedpur on Thursday. The two day training programme commenced on Thursday, March 24 under the aegis of CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative.
This two-day training program has been organised for professionals from metallurgical and various fabrication industries as also for faculty members and students of engineering institutions. The main objective of this program is to provide participants an insight of different welding processes used in materials fabrication and the non-destructive evaluation techniques used for assessing the quality of welded joints.
The two-day program has been divided into two parts including advances in Welding and Non-destructive Testing and Evaluation with four technical sessions each. The major highlights of the program include Welding for Material Fabrication: An overview, Joining of Materials, Drawback in Welding: Origin, Nature, Remedy, Welding in Additive Manufacturing, Overview of non-destructive testing for defect characterization, Ultrasonic technique for non-destructive evaluation of joints, Heterogeneity in welded structure: Evaluation using Electromagnetic Approach and Quality assessment of transition joint by NDT imaging.
The inaugural program of this two day training was organized on Thursday, March 24 at 9:30 am. Dr.Arpita Ghosh, Principal Scientist at CSIR-NML introduced the training program to participants by presenting program highlights. Dr Indranil Chattoraj, Director of CSIR-NML delivered the welcome address in which, he discussed the connection and importance of two major subjects, Welding and Non-destructive Evaluation of welded joints. He also informed the participants that CSIR-NML, being a premium research laboratory of the country, had the most comprehensive facilities and expertise in both the fields and concluded his address by assuring them that they would benefit from the two-day training program.
The welcome address was followed by self-introduction of the participants. The technical session commenced with a presentation by Dr Atanu Das, Senior Scientist at CSIR-NML and the Course Coordinator of this training program, on ‘Welding for Material Fabrication: An Overview’.
The inaugural program was attended by more than 25 professionals from various industries and all participants who had registered for the program.
