Jamshedpur, July 10: Reinforcing its commitment to a plastic-free city, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) Sanitation Enforcement Team conducted surprise raids on Wednesday in Golmuri and Sakchi markets. The drive specifically targeted vendors using banned single-use plastic materials. Acting under the directions of Deputy Municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar, the enforcement team—led by Accounts Officer Chandra Gupta Ashok Vardhan, City Manager Jyoti Punj and Revenue Inspector Prakash Toppo—confiscated prohibited plastic items and imposed fines exceeding ₹25,000 on violators.

The team inspected sweet and clothing shops in Golmuri Market, while grocery vendors and footpath sellers in Sakchi also came under scrutiny. Shopkeepers caught using plastic were issued strict warnings and informed that repeated violations could lead to the suspension of their trade licenses. In addition to the enforcement action, the campaign included an awareness drive encouraging citizens and shopkeepers to switch to cloth or jute bags as environmentally friendly alternatives. JNAC reiterated its message to the public with the slogan: “Say no to plastic, save the environment. Cleanliness is our shared responsibility.”
