Crack down on gutkha sellers near Jamshedpur schools

Jamshedpur, June 16: In response to the instructions of the Sub-Divisional Officer of Dhalbhum, Jamshedpur, action has been taken against sellers of gutkha tobacco operating near various school premises. A joint campaign led by the Executive Magistrate and Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee was carried out in Loyola School, Kadma DBMS School, Kadma Bistupur, and Sakchi police station areas.

Raids were conducted in multiple shops surrounding Rajendra Vidyalaya School, Motilal Public School, Rabindra Nath Tagore School, and Kashidih High School. A significant quantity of banned gutkha and tobacco was seized during the operation. A total fine of ₹2000 was imposed on the shopkeepers found in violation of the regulations.

Reports of tobacco product sales in the vicinity of school areas had been received for several days, prompting continuous action. Following the given instructions, authorities confiscated the prohibited goods and levied fines, while warning the concerned shopkeepers about the consequences of repeat offenses. It was made clear that punitive measures would be taken in accordance with the rules. Executive Magistrate Santosh Mahato spearheaded the campaign, supported by Sumit Kumar, City Manager of Jamshedpur, A.K.S. Ravi Bharti, in-charge tax inspector Manoj Kumar Lal Das, and regional personnel Prakash Bhagat, Krishna Ram, Dilip Barik, Vinod Tiwari, and Ganesh Ram. The flying squad personnel also actively participated in the operation.
