Ranchi: State Urban development minister CP Singh today directed the state officials concerned to ensure tight security for the people visiting various river ghats on the occasion of Chhath.
He said the ponds should be barricaded ahead of the festival when a large number of people gather for the worship of the Sun God. He said divers should be deputed at all Chhath venues where there is risk of people drowning in the rivers or ponds. He further asked the officials to ensure that the roads leading to the Chhath venues are cleaned and bleaching powder is sprinkled along the roads and drains.
The minister issued the instructions after paying a visit to various Chhath ghats in the city. He was accompanied by the Mayor of Ranchi Asha Lakra, deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargiya, commissioner Prashant Kumar and officials of Ranchi Municipal Corporation.
Meanwhile, members of Chhath Puja Committee at Chadri near Line Talaab Area requested the minister to order whitewashing of the boundary wall encompassing the pond ahead of the festival.
The minister asked the Municipality officials to fulfill the demand and also carry out a cleanliness drive at the venue.
