Jamshedpur: The long-standing dispute over the Sonari Gurudwara Committee has once again reached court. On Saturday, during a hearing at the Civil Court, Magistrate Jitendra Ram issued a notice to the Central Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (CGPC), halting further proceedings. The court fixed September 23 as the date for CGPC’s response. The petition was filed by Sonari Gurudwara Vice President Gurpreet Singh, who accused CGPC chief Bhagwan Singh of taking forceful action against the committee, in violation of the Gurudwara’s constitution. Advocates KM Singh and VanshSablok argued that on June 7, CGPC unlawfully locked the Sonari Gurudwara Committee office. Later, on September 7, a notice was issued to hold a General Body meeting, which Gurpreet challenged, citing the by-laws that empowered the Vice President to manage the committee in the absence of the President.

Despite informing the Deputy Commissioner and SSP, no administrative action was taken, prompting the move to court. Meanwhile, CGPC has scheduled a General Body meeting at 4 pm on Sunday at the Sonari Gurudwara to discuss the new committee and constitution. Members of the ruling group have decided to oppose the meeting, raising concerns of unrest. Locals have demanded police deployment at the Gurudwara to prevent clashes.
