Couple hacked to death on witchcraft accusations in Khunti

Ranchi, July 16: A couple was hacked to death on Sunday on charge of practising black magic in Jharkhand’s Khunti district, police said.
Gram Pradhan Panda Munda, 45, and his wife Anima Soya, 40, were fatally attacked with an axe by Kharia Munda who barged inside and attacked them with sharp weapon yesterday night at Rumudukel village in Murhu police station area.

Accused Kharia’s buffalo had died and he suspected the couple for the animal’s death.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Khunti), Ranveer Singh, said, witchcraft could be one of the reasons behind the attack and murder.

The SDPO said the killers, who are at large, have been identified and will be arrested soon.
