Corona fear ‘bombed’ away by NGT banned Dipawali fireworks in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Nov 15: Houses were lit with less clay lamps and more Chinese-like lights and the devotion too was visible in every temple where the Gods protected crowds of devotees from the COVID pandemic in spite of their pooh-poohing government and district protocols. The deafening sounds of fire crackers made a mockery of National Green Tribunal (NGT) norms which the state government and district administration had sworn to implement and abide by. To cap it all neither the district nor the police administrations seemed inclined to check this mockery as the citizens celebrated Dipawali bombing away corona fears with bomb blasts of nonchalance.

The district administration, it must be said had been severe till Friday keeping a hawk eye on cracker shops for which 288 licenses were issued but going by an average and logical count thousands of such temporary stalls dotting Sakchi, Bistupur, Mango, Golmuri, Kadma, Sonari and elsewhere were selling less green and more ‘red’ (non-NGT recommended) crackers to add to the pollution.

People were seen crowding market places, many without masks and with scant respect for social distancing norms eagerly making last minute Dipawali purchases to invite, if not the Goddess of wealth, definitely the COVID devil. In brief, the fear of Corona that was visible even during a mammoth festival like Durgotsav was dispelled by the people’s Dipawali inclinations that cared two hoots for preventive measures.
