Corona crunch: Jamshedpur records 311 new cases, 6 deaths on Wednesday

9 succumb to virus, 967 test positive in Jharkhand

Jamshedpur/Ranchi, August 19: Coronavirus continues to wreak havoc across Jharkhand with record positive cases coming in as the state government has embarked on massive rapid antigen tests for COVID-19. The two-day rapid antigen testing drive was launched in four worst hit districts Palamu, East Singhbhum, Ranchi and Dhanbad. A day after Jharkhand recorded single-day highest of 1266 cases, 967 fresh positives were reported on Wednesday, August 19. Nine deaths have been reported in the state till filing of this report on Wednesday evening. 6 deaths have been recorded in Jamshedpur while 1 patient each died in Bokaro, Palamu and Ranchi.  

Total positives in the state have climbed to 26300. With 9 deaths on Wednesday the death toll has reached 278.   

857 people have recovered and were discharged from various COVID hospital�s across the state on Tuesday. 16566 people have recovered in Jharkhand till date.

In Jamshedpur the COVID-19 tally has crossed 4400 mark. ����

311 new cases were reported on Wednesday, August 19 taking the East Singhbhum tally to 4465.

Jamshedpur reported six corona deaths on Wednesday, August 19. 4 men and 1 woman died of virus in city. The death toll in East Singhbhum district has climbed to 129. The first death was reported of a 70-year-old Agrico resident who was admitted to TMH with difficulty in breathing succumbed to the virus on Wednesday. Kadma resident 85-year-old man also died of coronavirus at TMH. Telco elderly was third casualty in the city. 73-year-old man who was suffering from hypertension died during treatment at TMH on Wednesday. 66-year-old Sonari woman also died of the virus on Wednesday. 59-year-old man hailing from Adityapur also succumbed to the virus on Wednesday.           

The district administration spokesperson informed that 311 corona positives have been identified in the East Singhbhum district on Wednesday. All the positives have been admitted to COVID-19 wards.

With 6 deaths in Jamshedpur on Tuesday the death toll in East Singhbhum district has climbed to 130. More than 150 patients have died across three hospitals in the city including TMH, MGM and Tinplate Hospital.

Other Jharkhand positive cases were reported from Bokaro 14, Chatra 1, Deoghar 129, Dhanbad 8, Dumka 10, East Singhbhum 208, Garhwa 4, Giridih 1, Godda 13, Gumla 43, Hazaribagh 67, Jamtara 6, Khunti 19, Koderma 16, Latehar 41, Lohardaga 27, Pakur 12, Palamu 82, Ramgarh 38, Ranchi 150, Sahebganj 18, Seraikela 27, Simdega 10 and West Singhbhum 23 taking the state corona tally to 26300.

The first case of the pandemic was reported from Hindpiri on March 31, when a 22-year-old Malaysian woman, who had been to Delhi�s Tablighi Jamaat congregation, tested positive. She has since been discharged after being recorded from the dreaded disease.

The Jharkhand government has ordered an extension of lockdown related restrictions in the state outside containment zones, up to August 31, due to COVID-19 cases.

The order will come into effect from August 1. Meanwhile, Jharkhand government issued measures for the implementation of interstate quarantine protocol, to all Additional Chief Secretary, DGP, Principal Secretary, IG and Deputy IG.

The order said that �All economic activities permitted prior to this order shall remain permitted.�
