Jamshedpur: District police here on Saturday made a breakthrough in detecting the case of theft of batteries worth over Rs 40 lakh from a showroom near National Highway 33 under MGM PS by arresting seven persons and recovering 71 stolen batteries. They also confiscated three UPSes and a mobile phone from the possession of the accused persons.
Those arrested were identified as Tarkeshwar Sharma, Nihar Mishra, Abhishek Kumar Jaisawal, Mohammad Raju, Monu Mishra, Santosh Mahato and Sonu Mahato.
The superintendent of police (rural), Jamshedpur, SK Barnwal said a team of district police nabbed the accused persons on the basis of a tip-off. He said the accused persons also confessed their involvement in similar thefts committed in Sundernagar and Birsanagar police station area and in Jharsugora of Odisha.
“Those arrested have a criminal past. They had stolen mobile phone and other goods from Sundernagar and Birsanagar. They had also stolen cash, laptop and mobile phones from a liquor shop in Odisha,” said the SP.
The police team that succeeded in detecting the theft under MGM PS included DSP (Law and Order), DSP Patamada, Inspectors-cum-officers in-charge of MGM PS and Jugsalai PS and officers in-charge of Sundernagar and Olidih.
