Conjunctivitis cases rise in Jamshedpur, hospitals witness increased patient inflow

More than 200 patients with eye infections turn up at MGM Medical Hospital  

Jamshedpur,July 27: As cases of conjunctivitis and other eye infections surge, MGM Medical Hospital finds itself witnessing a notable rise in the patient admissions. Patients are rushing to seek medical attention amidst growing concerns about the spread of these eye ailments.

Over the past few weeks, health authorities have noticed a sharp increase in cases of conjunctivitis and various eye infections within the city. These infections are highly contagious and have raised alarm bells among the local population.

With the escalating number of eye infection cases, MGM Medical Hospital has experienced a significant influx of patients seeking medical assistance. The hospital’s ophthalmology department is working round-the-clock to provide timely care and address the growing demand for treatment.

Conjunctivitis, commonly known as “pink eye,” presents with symptoms such as redness, itching, tearing, and a discharge from the eyes. While most cases are mild and resolve on their own, some may require medical attention, especially if the symptoms persist or worsen.

The medical staff at MGM Medical Hospital, including experienced ophthalmologists and dedicated healthcare professionals, are fully equipped to manage the rising number of eye infection cases. They are taking necessary precautions to prevent the further spread of infections within the hospital premises.

Health authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and practice good hygiene, such as frequently washing hands, avoiding touching the eyes, and maintaining personal eye-care routines. Additionally, individuals with symptoms of conjunctivitis or any eye infection are advised to seek medical advice promptly to receive appropriate treatment.

Local health departments are working closely with MGM Medical Hospital to contain the spread of eye infections and address the growing public health concern. Long queues could be seen outside outpatient departments (OPDs) of state owned heal hub MGM Medical College and Hospital  in Sakchi and Sadar Hospital at Khasmahal (around 6 km from city) for check-ups between 9 am and 1 pm.

More than 200 patients complaining of symptoms associated with viral infections are turning up at the OPDs at MGM Medical College and Hospital daily while the number varies between 40 and 50 at the Sadar Hospital.  15 out of the 35 beds at the emergency block of MGM Medical College and Hospital are occupied by patients suffering from viral diseases.

“Around 100 patients suffering from viral infections with the bulk of them suffering from conjunctivitis are turning up at OPDs of our hospital on an average daily. Only serious patients are admitted either to the Intensive Care Unit or at medical wards of our hospital. So far, 4-5 patients are admitted each day at medical wards of our hospital,” said an official.
