Jamshedpur, July 11: The East Singhbhum District Congress Committee staged a strong protest against the recent hike in parking charges at Tatanagar Railway Station. The demonstration was led by District President Anand Bihari Dubey, who submitted a memorandum to the South Eastern Railway General Manager via the Station Director.
Dubey argued that the parking fee hike is an unjust burden on the public and demanded an immediate rollback. “Even the drop-off lane is being charged, which violates railway norms,” he said. Officials informed him that a biometric system will be installed within two days to allow a 10-minute free drop-off window.
He also raised concerns over a contractor blocking public walkways with unauthorized booths, which had to be removed under his pressure. Complaints were also received from auto drivers and employees about the steep fee increases—auto fees were doubled from Rs 18 to Rs 36 and staff parking fees raised from Rs 60 to Rs 300 monthly without prior notice.
Dubey demanded the display of updated fee structures and the formation of a committee involving railway officials, public representatives and civil society members to address the issue. “Whenever the public suffers, the Congress will take to the streets,” he declared.
