Jamshedpur, July 11: A woman from Sonari, Pinky Devi, staged an emotional protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday, alleging that her adopted daughter was forcibly taken away by her younger sister and brother-in-law.
Pinky, accompanied by her husband Balkrishna, claimed they adopted two-month-old Saanvi from her sister Rashmi Singh in 2019 and had been raising her since. Recently, she alleged, Rashmi and her husband Sanjeet Kumar demanded Rs 10 lakh for a car. When the couple refused, threats followed.
Following a complaint by Rashmi at Kadma Police Station, the girl was removed from Pinky’s custody and sent to an ashram in Rupnagar, leaving the couple devastated.
Pinky explained that the adoption occurred because Sanjeet was unhappy about the birth of a girl and used to assault Rashmi. She has now sought the intervention of the Deputy Commissioner and SSP, requesting the child’s return and action against her sister and brother-in-law.
