Congress pays tribute to Bagun Sumbrui on death anniversary

Chaibasa, June 22: The Congress Bhawan in Chaibasa witnessed a solemn gathering on Thursday as Congress members paid tribute to Bagun Sumbrui on his death anniversary. Members offered flowers to his portrait and observed a two-minute silence in his honor. Bagun Sumbrui, a revered leader in the Kolhan division, played a pivotal role in the public movement for the separation of Chhotanagpur and Santhal Parganas from Bihar, leading to the formation of the state of Jharkhand.

Having been elected as a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1967, Bagun Sumbrui continued to serve the people, holding the position for an impressive 42 years until 2009. He also served as a member of the Lok Sabha for five terms and the Bihar Legislative Assembly and Jharkhand Legislative Assembly for four terms. Additionally, he held the position of Deputy Speaker in the newly formed Jharkhand State Legislative Assembly and served as the Congress District President of West Singhbhum district.

Bagun Sumbrui’s extensive political experience and his unwavering dedication to his constituents provided guidance and encouragement to Congress members. Despite holding various high constitutional posts, he remained accessible and approachable to his workers and people from all walks of life, endearing him to the public. Even today, his legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of the people. The commemoration event was attended by prominent Congress members, including Diku Sawaiyan, Trishanu Rai, Jitendra Nath Ojha, Ranjit Yadav, Vikramaditya Sundi, Rajendra Kachhap, Jumbal Sundi, Maheep Kudada, Kranti Prakash, Narayan Nishad, Sushil Kumar Das, and Sawan Kumar Paan.
