IED Blast Injures CoBRA Jawan in Saranda Forest; Airlifted to Ranchi

Chaibasa: An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) injured a CoBRA 205 battalion jawan during an anti-Maoist operation in the Saranda Forest on Monday.

Official sources stated that the incident occurred while security forces conducted a search operation near Chaibasa. The jawan triggered a pressure-activated IED that Maoist insurgents had planted, which set off a powerful explosion.

The blast seriously injured the soldier, prompting his immediate evacuation from the site. Authorities later airlifted him to Ranchi for advanced medical treatment.

This operation forms part of an intensified campaign to curb Maoist activities in the Saranda region. The insurgent presence, dense terrain, and frequent landmines continue to challenge personnel.

Following the blast, security forces increased vigilance and launched a search to track the perpetrators. Officials reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring regional stability.

West Singhbhum Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Renu confirmed the development, labeling the blast a “cowardly act” designed to hinder security forces. “The Maoists are increasingly relying on hidden explosives as they lose ground in direct encounters,” SP Renu stated.

He added that forces have cordoned off the area and deployed reinforcements to intensify the combing operation.
