Jamshedpur, Feb. 7: Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das inaugurated infrastructure projects worth Rs. 7.77 crore at the state-owned MGM Medical College in Dimna on Sunday.
The projects include a state- of- the- art centralized AC auditorium and a four-storied (G+3) library building. These were constructed as per the specifications of the Medical Council of India (MCI).
Addressing the function, the Chief Minister appreciated the initiative taken by the management to boost infrastructure facility. He promised that an e-library and Wi-Fi facilities will be introduced at the government medical college soon. He also appealed the MBBS students to take keen interest in medical research.
“Our government’s focus has been to ensure quality based higher education. With changing times things students must adopt hi-tech education. We would ensure that the college soon gets an e-library and is equipped with Wi-Fi facility,” Das said addressing an august gathering.
The Chief Minister went on to say that during the last one year the state government has recruited over 400 doctors. “We are aware of the shortage of doctors. We are trying our best to meet the problem,” he said.
He also informed that government is taking initiative whereby B Sc pass students would get medical training so that they could be deputed in various government health centers.
State food and civil supplies minister Saryu Roy, who is also a local legislator (Jamshedpur West), said that a new chapter has been added to the history of medical college. �With the construction of the new auditorium, the college can now host even national level seminars.
The students and faculty members should make best use of the new infrastructure,” he said.
The auditorium constructed by the engineering cell of the health department is well equipped with modern facilities.
It has a capacity of 800 people. It has projector and generator facility, the auditorium will be able to host big functions, seminars and medical conferences.
Around Rs 3.94 crore was spent for the auditorium.
The library building houses a spacious parking and a canteen on its ground floor. The library with huge collection of subject books and medical journals is located on the first floor.
The second floor of the building houses the record room while the third floor has an examination hall. The library building entailed an investment of Rs 3.83 crore.
BJP MP from Jamshedpur constituency Bidyut Baran Mahto and Rajya Sabha Congress MP Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu were also present at the function.
They described the infrastructure boost at the college as a new milestone. Balmuchu said that the government must take immediate steps to meet the crisis of inadequate doctors in the state.
In his address, MGM Medical College principal, A N Mishra said that the infrastructure has been built as per the MCI specifications.
