CM gives Jharkhand wings with flying institute launch in Dumka

Hemant Soren launches development projects worth over ₹190 crore

Dumka: Chief Minister Hemant Soren inaugurated the Jharkhand Flying Institute at Sido–Kanhu Airport, Dumka, marking a significant milestone in the state’s aviation training capabilities. He also launched 12 development projects worth ₹190.647 crore and laid foundations for 14 schemes valued at ₹123.48 crore, distributing appointment letters and assets to beneficiaries during the event.

Speaking at the inauguration, Soren said the new institute would give fresh wings to the aspirations of Jharkhand’s youth and help realise the vision of Dishom Guru Shibu Soren. He recalled that the project, conceptualised in 2008, has now taken flight to create opportunities in aviation training and technical skill development. In its first phase, the institute will train 30 pilots, with training costs for 15 trainees fully funded by the state government.

Soren noted that during the pandemic the government had arranged flights to bring back migrant workers stranded across the country. He added that it was a matter of pride that sons and daughters of those same families would now have the chance to become pilots and aviation engineers. The Chief Minister inspected training facilities, equipment, simulators, safety procedures, theory sessions and emergency management systems.

Reaffirming his government’s commitment to delivering promises, Soren highlighted initiatives that focus on education, health and economic empowerment. He mentioned the Marang Gomke Jaypal Singh Munda overseas scholarship, under which 25 students from ST, SC, OBC and minority communities are sent abroad each year for higher studies at government expense.

Soren said his administration functions from villages rather than headquarters, emphasising doorstep delivery of services under the “Seva ka Adhikar” initiative. Camps at panchayat level are providing caste, income and residence certificates, ration cards, pension approvals and application facilities for welfare schemes. Officers failing to resolve cases within set timelines will face action, he added.

He also reviewed progress on the Masalia–Raneswar mega lift irrigation project, terming it a transformative scheme that will ensure year-round water availability for farmers, boost crop production and improve livelihoods. The state government, he said, is fully committed to addressing issues faced by farmers.

During the programme assets were distributed to 23 beneficiaries, including motorised tricycles for differently-abled individuals, motorcycles, a mini medical unit, a bus, hostel-related support and financial assistance.

The event was attended by MP Nalin Soren, MLAs Basant Soren, Pradeep Yadav, Louis Marandi, Alok Soren, Zila Parishad chairperson Joyce Besra, chief secretary Avinash Kumar, secretary Prashant Kumar, flying institute director Capt. S. P. Sinha, trainees and a large number of residents.
