Jamshedpur, Dec 25: Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai offered the UMANG Fellowship, a hybrid programme designed for teachers and educators with a strong focus on Social-Emotional Learning (SEL). Applications for the 2024 fellowship were invited from across the country, and out of thousands of applicants, only 50 educators were selected. All selected fellows received scholarships to pursue the programme.
Among them was Soma Banerjee, Principal of DBMS Career Academy, who emerged as the only educator from Jharkhand to make it to the cohort. Of the 50 chosen educators, only 30 successfully completed the fellowship, including Mrs Banerjee.
During the programme, she conducted multiple sessions on Social and Emotional Learning in her school as well as in other schools across the city, contributing to awareness and capacity building among teachers and students.
The convocation ceremony was held on 22nd December 2025 at TISS Mumbai, where Soma Banerjee was formally awarded the fellowship. Her achievement has brought pride not only to her but also to DBMS Career Academy and the education community of Jamshedpur.
