Class 10 Student Hacked to Death Over Football Dispute in West Bengal

Kolkata (IANS): Police arrested three youths on Tuesday after they allegedly hacked a 17-year-old Class 10 student to death over a football match dispute in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, officials confirmed.

The victim, Prosenjit Biswas, resided in the Fultala area of Baruipur. His family revealed that a recent football game at a local field had sparked a heated argument between Prosenjit and a group of local youths. Neighbours alleged the suspects had been plotting revenge ever since.

Ambush and Assault

The tragedy unfolded on Monday when the three accused lured Prosenjit and his friend to the Palpara area. Another argument erupted and the suspects attacked the duo with sharp weapons.

Eyewitnesses reported that Prosenjit sustained a severe chest injury during the assault. When his friend tried to intervene, the attackers slashed him as well, inflicting serious injuries.

Realizing the severity of the violence, the suspects themselves rushed the bleeding teenagers to the Baruipur Sub-District Hospital. Doctors stated that Prosenjit succumbed to his injuries during treatment, while his friend remains hospitalized.

Hospital Drama and Police Intervention

News of the teenager’s death sparked immediate outrage. Angered family members, relatives, and local residents swarmed the hospital premises.

Tension escalated when the three suspects sought refuge inside the hospital’s police aid post. The furious crowd surrounded the post, demanding that authorities hand the suspects over. Police officers quickly intervened, shifting the accused to a secure location to prevent mob violence.

Investigation Underway

Baruipur Police District Sub-Divisional Police Officer Abhishek Ranjan confirmed the arrests and stated that an earlier dispute over a football match triggered the fatal attack.
