Jamshedpur: The city police are witnessing some the testing times with the beginning of the New Year. While the deteriorating law and order situation in the city remain major concern, the city witnessed more than 200 suicides in which about 40 per cent where teenagers.
The beginning of the year was also marred by twin murder at Sankosai in Mango Olidih on January 1 bringing back the fear.
Police have launched an intensive arms checking drive on the streets to tackle crime but they seem to have overlooked the movement of various gangs which are roaming free and giving shape to criminal incidents with gay abandon.
The killing of two persons in Sankosai took place when police were busy frisking commuters in Mango.
During last part of 2009 and first part of 2010 has been very trouble some period. Crime increased and criminal activities could not be controlled.
Inspite of the best effort made by the former SP Navin Kumar Singh, of the town crime could not be controlled and as a result during last months the town was virtually looking like a police camp. With the promotion of S.P. as a DIG Chaibasa Range the new team under leadership of Akhilesh Jha took the charge and one should appreciate his way of policing. Crime was under control but suddenly the last one and half month criminals have increased their activities and with a view of create sense of fear and instability extortion call and graph of firing increased.
� The city had been free from crimes, but now the `knife culture’ has taken roots. The murders at Mango is a glaring example. The police should act with utmost vigil and nab the accused. The increase in crimes is a matter of concern. Thefts were a common but recent rise of cases of murders is serious.

It is high time that police identifies such criminals and action is taken against them,� said social worker.
SSP Amol V Homkar said police was taking necessary steps to control and detect crime. �We are giving our best and will come up with results very soon,� he claimed.

He said that it is the duty of every police station to keep a vigil look on crime cases in their areas and take action against the culprits. �We have submitted memorandum to various police stations. If situation remains the same we would be forced to meet the police superintendent for prompt action,� conceded Alok Dubey, a Congress activist.
