Jamshedpur: A pall of gloom took over Baridih Busti when bodies of six of the 11 victims of road accident that took place in Bokaro yesterday arrived this morning. The victims were residents of Baridih Busti where the news broke late yesterday night.
A huge crowd gathered at Baridih Busti as the bodies arrived in a vehicle sent by Dhanbad police.
As many as 10 members of a marriage party died after they were crushed by a truck in Jharkhand’s coal city Dhanbad, police said Saturday. Several more people were reportedly injured in the incident.
Police said the marriage of Anup Singh, a resident of Jamshedpur, was to take place Friday night in Dhanbad district. The marriage party members were staying at a hotel.
The victims, accompanied by many others, were going to bridge-groom’s house by dancing and singing on the roadside near Mugama locality when the truck ran over them at high speed. Eleven people came under the spate of the killer truck.
Five of the victims succumbed to critical injuries at the scene while and the remaining five died in hospital. The condition of one victim is said to be serious.
The truck, after crushing the marriage party members, drove on for around 500 meters. The truck driver managed to escape. Local residents tried to chase the driver, but could only get his vehicle.
