Jamshedpur: The deputy commissioner (DC) of East Singhbhum Amit Kumar today said that the district administration will make sure that the city gets uninterrupted power supply during puja. Continuous electricity supply will be especially made available to puja committees across the city, he said.

District administration pulled its socks ahead of Durga Puja and Muharram as it convened a meeting of district officials and representatives of puja committees and peace committees to review preparation for the upcoming festivals on Thursday.

The DC, presiding over the meeting, said the administration will ensure basic civic amenities during puja. Water will be supplied to festival venues through tankers at places where hand pumps are not working, he said.

Seeking suggestions from puja committees and akharas, the DC said the administration wanted to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of festivals with the help of volunteers and members of puja and peace committees.

The DC received suggestions from puja committees of Kadma, Jaduguda, Sitaramdera, Azadnagar, Chakulia, Jugsalai, Chhota Govindpur, Burmamines, Ghatsila and Parsudih regarding traffic control, cleanliness, crowd control and safety of pandals.

“The district administration does not want to impose unnecessary restrictions on people during festivities. We want to ensure peace with the cooperation of one and all,” the DC said.

Earlier, during the meeting, SDO of Dhalbhum Suraj Kumar briefed everyone about the administrative preparations made for the puja so far.

Muslim representatives demanded proper illumination of roads and arrangements for approach roads leading to Karbala venues. Cleanliness, uninterrupted power supply and adequate availability of water were also demanded from the administration.

The DC ordered prohibition on sale of liquor from 10th October to 12th October all over the district. He said the immersion of idols should be compulsorily carried out by the Durga Puja committees by 8 pm to pave way for Muharram procession.
