Jamshedpur: The Chief Minister Raghubar Das joined the rakhi celebrations with his three siblings and other cousins at his Agrico residence on Thursday. The sisters followed tradition and tied rakhi to their Chief Minister brother.
” I am happy to be here with my sisters. Today is the day of sisters as Sakshi Malik made India proud with the first Olympic medal for India. I wish all the sisters of Jharkhand a happy Raksha Bandhan and we are proud of all our sisters in Jharkhand,” Das said after the ceremony of Raksha Bandhan at home.
The spirit of Raksha Bandhan radiated across the city on Thursday. Youngsters flocked to the markets to get a fashionable gift for their sisters from a range of imported chocolates, kurtis, perfumes,watches, and even laptops.
Rakhis were also exchanged as bonds of friendship, a practice that has become an increasingly popular trend, particularly among the school students and college crowd. People celebrated Rakhi Poornima by performing pujas in the temples and changed their holy threads.
According to information, the postal authorities had prepared water-proof envelopes. The department had provided each post office with special envelopes that can carry rakhis and letters safely even in times of bad weather.
On the other hand, students of Narbheram Hansraj English School from classes XI and XII went to the Sonari based Army Camp to tie rakhis to the jawans there. Each girl tied rakhi to one army personnel to make them feel closer to home. The school has been following this initiative for the last three years.
The Narbheram Hansraj English School started this tradition last year as a part of the Interact Club activities to make the jawans happy because they are far away from their families.
The Brahmakumaris, a socio-spiritual organisation also organised a rakhi tying celebration that started from August 17 and continued today at their Bistupur centre. Anybody who wished to tie a rakhi could approach the centre. The Brahmakumaris have been welcoming people every year on this occasion as a message of love and peace.
