Chhotu Pandit Murder: Police conduct raids for assailants

Jamshedpur, Oct. 30: BJP activists blocked Dimna Chowk on�NH-33 under Ulidih police station area for several hours protesting against the murder of a party activist in Mango on Thursday evening, while the police raided several places in search of the assailants.

It may be recalled that two unidentified criminals shot 30-year-old Chhotu Pandit at Daiguttu under Mango police station area last evening. The victim was BJP Mango Mandal Committee�s secretary and had been sent to jail for his alleged involvement in the communal violence that took place at Mango in July last.

Aside from the arrest of the criminals, the agitating BJP�activists demanded a government job and Rs 35 lakh compensation to the dependents of the murder victim.

The blockade started at about 11.30 a.m. and, as a result, the vehicles including trucks, trailers, cars and two-wheelers remained stranded, causing immense inconvenience to the commuters.

BJP senior workers Anand Jha and Aftab Ahmed Siddique along with over 200 activists participated in the blockade.� Party’s state committee vice-president Vikas Singh was also present at the agitation site.

The DSP (Headquarters-I) KN Mishra rushed to the spot and tried to convince the protestors to lift the blockade, but his appeals went in vain. Later, Superintendent of Police (city) Chandan Jha arrived at the blockade spot and tried to convince the protestors.�The blockade was continuing late into the evening till the time of filing this report.

On Friday morning, Pandit’s body was taken to the MGM Medical College and Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. The body was kept in the mortuary even after the autopsy was over.� Senior BJP leader and Jharkhand Minister for Food and Civil Supply Saryu Roy also visited the post-mortem house.

DSP (Headquarters-I) KN Mishra said Pandit was a resident of Daiguttu and the murder was the outcome an old enmity between the neighbours. “We have already got the names of those who killed Pandit.�Though the assailants have fled the area, we are trying to arrest the two accused by conducting raids at their houses and elsewhere in the city,” Mishra said.�

According to police, the assailants were identified as Vikash Tiwary and Tezu Singh, both residents of Daiguttu in Mango.

As the news of Pandit’s being shot spread, the police swung into action sensing communal trouble in the sensitive Mango area.�

A huge number of people from Mango locality and elsewhere had also rushed to Tata Main Hospital on hearing the fatal attack on Pandit.�
