Champai orders relief for family rendered homeless in arson

Seraikela, March 27: Unidentified miscreants set a thatched house on fire in Indratandi Mohalla of Seraikela in the early hours of Sunday. No casualty was reported in the incident. However, the household articles were completed destroyed in the fire, police said.

State Tribal Welfare cum Transport Minister Champai Soren took notice of the incident and directed the Seraikela-Kharsawan district administration to provide immediate relief to the victim family and take necessary action to arrest the culprits responsible for the arson, sources said.

According to sources, the flames soon engulfed the asbestos-roofed house, causing panic among the residents.

The house owner, Kaushalya Devi, 65, and her two sons, Jagdish Acharya and Kartik Acharya, were not at home when the incident took place. She said she was rendered homeless as a result of the mischief. She said her family is dependent on the meager income coming from a small shop beside her house. She said the fire caused her damage worth Rs 50,000. She demanded compensation from the district administration and help to build her house again.
