Jamshedpur, Aug 9: Chain snatchers have once again become active in snatching gold-chain in the district. Under Baharagora and Ghatshila police station areas of East Singhbhum district, the thieves are targeting several women. Incidents of snatching have also increased in rural areas.
On Monday alone, two incidents of chain snatching took place in Baharagora and one in Ghatshila. Police are probing the incidents. Till the time of writing the news, the miscreants are beyond reach.
The incident of chain snatching from two women in Baharagora took place around 8.20 am on Monday. A widow was decorating goods in a shop when a man came on a bike and ran away after snatching a gold chain from her neck. While in another incident. Madhumita Pradhan, wife of Sanat Kumar Pradhan, a resident of Pathpur, Baharagora, was going from her house to worship at Shiva temple. In the meantime, a bike came in front of the house and snatched the gold chain from the neck and managed to escape.
Baharagora police are scanning the CCTV footage of the incident. Similarly, the incident of chain snatching also occurred in Ghatshila of the district at around 10.30 am on Monday. The miscreants ran away after snatching the gold chain from the woman’s neck.
In another incident, the miscreants entered the house of 83-year-old Yamuna Dutta, who lives near Kashida NH Chowk in Ghatshila police station area, at around 10.30 am on Monday and snatched a gold chain from her neck and fled.
A police official claimed while making attempts to detect the chain-snatchers, they have also intensified patrolling on the roads. According to records available, during the past six months, over 100 incidents of chain-snatching and bag-snatching have been reported in different thana areas across the East Singhbhum, but the police have cracked only few cases.
A police official said that persons, whose movements were found to be suspicious, were detained in the last two months. Besides, the police have been keeping extra vigil in residential colonies not only during night but daytime too.
