West Singhbhum: 21 IEDs defused
Jamshedpur: In a major breakthrough, the Chaibasa Police, in collaboration with CRPF battalions and district forces, successfully carried out a large-scale anti-Naxal operation in the Kolhan region. The operation, aimed at curbing extremist activities, was spearheaded by senior officers and involved teams from various battalions, including the CRPF’s 209, 203, and 205 units, alongside state police forces.
The operation, conducted over several days, was initiated following credible intelligence regarding Naxal movement and activity in the Podahat area. Security forces launched a multi-pronged action plan, deploying personnel to search and secure the region. During the operation on January 21, the forces achieved a significant success by neutralizing a Naxal setup near the village of Serengdanga under the jurisdiction of the Toklo Police Station under West Singhbhum district.
The operation uncovered a large cache of explosives and materials intended for Naxal activities. The recoveries include: 12 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs): Each weighing 2 kg. 9 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs): Each weighing 1 kg. Stockpile of Detonators: Identified as “Stick-55.”
The discovery of these materials underscores the Naxal intent to carry out attacks on security forces and disrupt peace in the region. A previously planted series of 21 IEDs was also defused by the bomb disposal unit, preventing potential harm to both security personnel and civilians.
“The operation reflects the robust coordination between state police and paramilitary forces, as well as the effective use of intelligence inputs. Senior officials emphasized the importance of proactive measures in curbing extremist threats and safeguarding public safety,” said an official.
Security forces have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining sustained pressure on extremist elements in the region. Anti-Naxal operations will continue to ensure the safety and security of communities, particularly in vulnerable areas like Kolhan.
This success has been widely lauded as a step forward in countering Naxal activities and restoring peace in the region. Officials are confident that such coordinated efforts will continue to dismantle extremist networks and strengthen Jharkhand’s internal security.

The official said: “In light of recent developments and to ensure the safety of residents in Naxal-prone areas, we have initiated a proactive approach by increasing our security presence. The primary objective is to create a robust deterrent against any potential nefarious activities and maintain law and order in the region.”
