Raipur: At least 14 members of banned outfit CPI-Maoist were gunned down by joint security forces in in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district.
According to Chhattisgarh Police, security forces so far have recovered 12 bodies of slain Maoist rebels.
A senior police office of Chhattisgarh told the media that the gunfight witnessed heavy crossfire from both the sides and one security personnel sustained injuries and was shifted to hospital for treatment.
According to Gariaband Superintendent of Police on Monday, two bodies of Maoists were recovered, bringing the total to 12 so far.
Gariband SP further added that a search operation was launched on January 19 after receiving intelligence inputs of senior Maoist leaders camping in Gariband forest.
Another senior officer said that over 1,000 security personnel had cornered 60 red rebels in the forest.
The officer added that on Tuesday early hours gunbattle started as our team nearing Maoist camp.
