Chaibasa : In a startling revelation, it has come to light that Jharkhand’s former Rural Development Minister, KN Tripathi, had strongly recommended the suspension of the then Deputy Commissioner Sunil Kumar and several other officials, along with the initiation of FIRs in connection with the Chaibasa MNREGA scam. The minister had raised serious concerns regarding the role of the Secretary and the MNREGA Commissioner, accusing them of concealing crucial information related to the scam from him.
Despite the minister’s explicit recommendations for disciplinary actions against the implicated officers, a cover-up ensued instead of any visible measures being taken. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has now broadened its investigation to encompass these officers within the scope of its inquiry into the MNREGA scam.
The scandal, which centers around irregularities and malpractices in the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) in Chaibasa, has taken a significant turn with the inclusion of these officers in the ED’s ongoing investigation. This revelation raises questions about accountability and transparency within the administrative machinery, especially when it involves the misuse of public funds meant for rural development and employment generation.
