Jamshedpur, Jan 28: With the proposed Urban Local Body elections in Jharkhand approaching and the implementation of ward-level OBC reservation, aspiring candidates are facing serious practical hurdles, primarily due to delays in the issuance of caste certificates.
BJP district General Secretary Anil Modi has expressed deep concern over the administrative functioning, warning that many eligible candidates are on the verge of being excluded from the electoral process.
Anil Modi pointed out that while the nomination process is set to begin from tomorrow, a large number of OBC aspirants are yet to receive their caste certificates.
He described the situation as unfortunate for the democratic process, stating that such delays undermine the principles of fairness and equal opportunity in elections.
He emphasized that the objective of OBC reservation is to strengthen social justice, not to deprive the same community of its electoral rights due to administrative negligence.
Failure to issue caste certificates in a timely manner, he said, would amount to a direct violation of the democratic rights of the OBC community.
The BJP leader demanded immediate intervention from the district administration and the state government, calling for an expedited certification process, the organization of special camps to clear pending applications, and the issuance of certificates under emergency provisions in view of the nomination schedule.
This, he stressed, is essential to ensure that no eligible candidate is denied the right to contest elections due to technical reasons.
Anil Modi further alleged that preventing qualified candidates from filing nominations on technical grounds is unacceptable and tantamount to suppressing the democratic rights of the OBC community.
Reiterating the party’s stand, he stated that the BJP has always upheld democracy, social justice, and equal opportunity, and will continue to stand firmly with the OBC community on this issue.
