Jamshedpur: Armed criminals looted cash worth Rs 2.75 from one Vimal Agrawal, a Kolkata-based trader, near Jugsalai branch of Bank of India on Sunday. They took the alleged victim at gunpoint and robbed the cash from him.
Police received a complaint from Agrawal, but did not lodge an FIR till evening.
Police sources said the trader was robbed just after he collected cash from some debtor in Jugsalai. He was on his way on the isolated street in the afternoon when the incident took place. Due to soaring mercury, the road was abandoned with little people around. This could have led the criminals to succeed in their attempt, sources said.
Jugsalai police have started search for the looters by conducting raids at various places in Jugsalai police station area. Cops are searching for the robbers in local hotels and lodges on the basis of physical appearance of the looters. They suspect the hand of local criminals in the incident.
Police officials reached the crime scene in the evening and inquired about the incident from local residents. They said most of the shops were closed at the time of the crime since it was afternoon when most customers avoid shopping in the hot weather. Cops are searching for eyewitnesses of the incident.
