Campaign to make East Singhbhum 100% Malnutrition-Free

Jamshedpur: In a move to make East Singhbhum 100% malnutrition-free, the 8th National Nutrition Month is being observed from September 17 to October 16 with a series of awareness activities across East Singhbhum. On Friday, Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi flagged off the Nutrition Awareness Chariot from the Collectorate premises, marking the launch of the district-level campaign.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Bhagirath Prasad, District Transport Officer Dhananjay, District Social Welfare Officer Sandhya Rani, Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs), and women supervisors were present on the occasion. Before the chariot began its journey, the Deputy Commissioner administered the Nutrition Pledge to all participants.

The Awareness Chariot will travel through urban areas of Dhalbhum and Ghatsila subdivisions, as well as rural blocks and weekly markets, spreading messages on malnutrition prevention and the importance of balanced diets. Information will be shared on vaccination, diet, sanitation and hygiene, prevention of diarrhea and anemia, and the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. Special focus will be given to pregnant women, lactating mothers, newborns, adolescent girls, and children.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner stressed that fighting malnutrition requires joint effort and public participation. “We must all work together to break the cycle of malnutrition. Proper diet, healthy habits, and cleanliness are essential. This campaign should become a people’s movement so that we can achieve the goal of making the district 100% malnutrition-free,” he said.

This year, Nutrition Month 2025 is centered on the overall health and nutrition of women, children, and families. The key themes include: Freedom from obesity by limiting salt, sugar, and oil, Promoting local products as a step toward self-reliance, Early childhood care and education with focus on “nutrition and education”, Integrated action and digitalization, Promoting infant and young child feeding practices and Encouraging men’s participation in nutrition activities

During the campaign, different activities and awareness drives will be carried out daily in blocks and panchayats until October 16.
