Call to restrict daytime entry of heavy vehicles in Jamshedpur amid rising road mishaps

Jamshedpur: Expressing serious concern over the rising number of road accidents in the city, Akash Shah, District Spokesperson of JD(U) East Singhbhum, has urged immediate administrative intervention to enhance public safety.
In a press statement issued on Friday, he highlighted the recent tragic incident at Bhuiyandih Chowk, where a young life was lost prematurely, leaving the city shaken.
He noted that such incidents are not only devastating for the affected families but also represent an irreparable loss to society as a whole. A similar fatal accident had occurred a few months ago near the Sakchi Bus Stand roundabout.
Shah pointed out that the unchecked movement of heavy vehicles—including trucks, dumpers, and trailers—during daytime hours within city limits has emerged as a major contributor to these accidents. Their presence in densely populated areas and busy intersections poses a significant threat to commuters, particularly two-wheeler riders, and is also a key factor behind prolonged traffic congestion, especially on Mango Bridge.
He has urged the district administration and the Deputy Commissioner to take immediate and decisive steps, including:
Enforcing a complete ban on the entry of heavy vehicles into the city during daytime hours
Restricting the movement of such vehicles strictly to nighttime
Revising and regulating designated entry and exit routes along with a structured schedule
Expediting the development of alternative bypass routes to divert heavy traffic away from the city
Implementing and strictly enforcing speed limits for heavy vehicles
Shah concluded by appealing to the administration to prioritize public safety and take swift, effective measures to prevent the recurrence of such tragic incidents in the future.
