Bus enters pond near NH 33, three engineering girl students injured

Jamshedpur : In a road mishap, three girl students of an engineering college were injured as the college bus which they were travelling rolled into a dry pond at Belajuri village along the NH-33 under MGM police station area here on Thursday.

The mishap took place as the bus carrying about 40 students and staff of BA College of Engineering and Technology from Jamshedpur to Gutia near Galudih.

Soon after the incident, the injured were rushed to MGM Medical College Hospital from where they were later shifted to Tata Main Hospital for better treatment. The injured students were identified as Parvati Nag (21), Sweta Kumar (20) and Saheen Parveen (20), all second year students of the engineering college.

” It was really shocking to see the bus entering into a pond after deviating from the road. The bus left Sakchi at about 9 am, and was moving at a moderate speed, but suddenly deviated and moved toward a dry pond where the vehicle stopped with a jerk.

As a result of the jerk, those sitting in the first few rows had sustained injuries. The victims’ head had collided with iron rod which. But those who were sitting in the rear seats escaped unhurt,” said a student who was travelling in the same bus and was alright.

The student who was speaking on condition of anonymity pointed out that there was no vehicle coming from the opposite direction as such and the road was more or less deserted. He stated that it seemed that the steering of the bus was fixed otherwise such incident would not have taken place.

Officer-in-charge, MGM police station, Imdad Ansari confirmed about the mishap on the NH-33 resulting in injuries to a number of students.

” We are investigating the incident. However, as per the initial probe the bus driver had lost the balance and entered into a dry pond. Three girls who were injured have been taken to the medical college hospital for treatment. They are all out of danger,” said the officer-in-charge.

P Ramdas, an official of BA College of Engineering and Technology visited the MGM Medical College Hospital to see the injured students.

” We are sad over the mishap. It took place as the driver must have lost balance at the stretch where the vehicle deviated from the road into a dry pond. We have shifted the injured students to Tata Main Hospital from the MGM Medical College Hospital where the police had brought them soon after the mishap,” said Ramdas.
