Make away with cash and valuables worth over Rs 30 lakh in broad daylight
Jamshedpur: Unidentified burglars took away cash and property worth several lakh from four houses in Kirtan Vihar colony under Mango police station area in broad daylight on Tuesday, police said.
Sources said the burglars targeted the flats bearing numbers 1, 2, 5 and 6 between 1.30 pm and 3 pm. The culprits entered the houses by breaking the locks on the front entrance.
In one of the incidents, the burglars took away gold ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh along with cash worth Rs 71,000 and other valuables from the house of one Dr SK Singh. The culprits also took away cash and valuables from the neighbouring households whose occupants were away.
Police began investigation into the thefts on the information of Dr Singh. They said there were no CCTV cameras installed in the apartments as a result of which police investigation was hampered. Detecting the thefts could have been easier had there been CCTV cameras around, said cops.
Cops said the burglars had targeted the houses after knowing well that the occupants were not there. The occupants of three of the households targeted by the burglars had gone out of station while Dr SK Singh of the fourth apartment had gone to see a doctor at Bhalubasa with his mother. On his return, Dr Singh found the lock broken and valuables missing.
Police suspect the burglars could have local links who intimated them about the occupants of the flats being away from their homes. They said they were questioning the security personnel and other apartment staff to get lead into the burglaries.
