Hazaribagh: In the lead-up to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Jharkhand, Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF), Nitin Aggarwal, made a significant statement addressing concerns about Bangladeshi infiltration. Often facing accusations from state governments, BSF defended its efforts in curbing infiltration during Aggarwal’s statement in Hazaribagh, located 90 kilometers from Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand.
Aggarwal highlighted that BSF personnel exert maximum efforts to prevent the infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals. He emphasized the challenging nature of the India-Bangladesh border, stretching over 4,000 kilometers, with 30% (1,200 km) running along river banks where fencing is not feasible. The DG stated that, currently, infiltration is not a major issue, citing successful arrests of numerous brokers and agents aiding in the illegal crossings.
Additionally, Aggarwal mentioned instances where infiltrators were apprehended with fake Aadhaar cards of India, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance. He shared that the BSF has implemented an electronic wall in areas where physical fencing is impractical, creating a technological barrier.
The DG addressed concerns about pending land acquisition affecting fencing work at some locations. Aggarwal welcomed the celebration of BSF’s foundation day in Hazaribagh, extending the reach of such events beyond Delhi to showcase the force’s capabilities and attract youth to consider careers in the BSF.
In response to questions about drone activities in border areas, Aggarwal acknowledged the utilization of equipment to counteract such incidents. The BSF is employing firing mechanisms and even enlisting animals to detect and thwart drones infiltrating Indian territory, demonstrating their commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders.
