Brown sugar worth Rs 1 lakh seized in Jamshedpur, drug peddler arrested

Jamshedpur, Oct 19: In a major success under the ongoing anti-narcotics drive, the Kowali police of East Singhbhum district have arrested a drug peddler and seized brown sugar worth around  Rs 1 lakh.

According to reports, Jamshedpur Senior Superintendent of Police received a tip-off on Sunday about the illegal sale of brown sugar in the area.

Acting on the information, a special police team was formed under the leadership of the Mosabani deputy SP.

The team swiftly conducted a raid near Naga Pulia on the Odisha Road.

During the operation, a youth attempted to flee upon seeing the police, but was chased down and caught.

On interrogation, he identified himself as Mohammad Mohsin Nadeem, a resident of Halidpokhar (West).

A search of his pockets led to the recovery of 30 small packets of brown sugar weighing around 5.7 grams.

The seized contraband is estimated to be worth approximately  Rs 1 lakh in the illegal market.

During questioning, Nadeem admitted that he used to procure brown sugar from Jamshedpur and distribute it across nearby rural areas for profit.

He also revealed that seven to eight other individuals are involved in the network. Police have launched operations to trace and arrest his accomplices.

A case has been registered against Mohammad Mohsin Nadeem under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and he has been remanded to judicial custody.

Police authorities have intensified efforts to dismantle the entire drug supply chain operating in the region.
