Jamshedpur, July 16: Adityapur Colony’s RIT police station area is facing a grave issue as the rampant brown sugar trade has turned the residential zone into a breeding ground for drug addiction and criminal activities. Concerned intellectuals are raising the alarm and urging local authorities to take immediate action to curb the escalating problem.
Local residents have reported that the market between Road No. 7 and 8 has become a notorious spot for drug consumption and gambling, especially in the evenings. The situation has escalated to the extent that shops have transformed into open drug consumption points, leading to a surge in addiction among the youth in the area. Distressed intellectuals are expressing their concerns about the negative impact of drug addiction on the affected youth’s futures and are planning to meet with the Superintendent of Police (SP) to address the issue urgently.
Anti-social elements have taken advantage of the darkness by encroaching on the area and conducting illicit activities. Noble people residing in nearby quarters are distressed and troubled by these activities. The situation has become so dire that women in the locality are finding it increasingly difficult to leave their homes, fearing for their safety.
The epicenter of the brown sugar trade in the city is allegedly the Muslim basti within the Adityapur police station area, where daily murders are linked to the dominance over the drug business. Regrettably, this menace has now extended its reach to the RIT police station area, posing a fatal threat to the residents of this once posh and peaceful locality.
In response to the deteriorating situation, a social worker caused a ruckus on Saturday evening and drove drug addicts out of the market on routes 7-8. The social worker also called on the general public not to shelter such anti-social elements, as they are contributing to the worsening of the problem.
As the situation continues to worsen, the demand for immediate action from law enforcement and concerned authorities becomes even more urgent. The community hopes that the authorities will step in promptly to address the drug menace and restore safety and tranquility to the RIT police station area of Adityapur Colony.
