Bokaro: In a major crackdown on organized crime, Jharkhand Police arrested seven operatives linked to the notorious interstate gangs of Aman Sahu and Prince Khan on Thursday. The crackdown effectively dismantled a local extortion ring that had been terrorizing businessmen, contractors, and real estate dealers across the industrial city.
Early Morning Encounter and Arrests
The operation took a dramatic turn in the early hours of Thursday. Acting on a disclosure from the gang’s mastermind, Prince Kumar Gupta (alias ‘Bhatia’), a police team moved to recover hidden weapons. Upon reaching the location, Gupta opened fire on the officers, triggering a retaliatory encounter.
Gupta sustained a bullet injury to his leg and is currently undergoing treatment at Bokaro General Hospital under heavy guard.
Bokaro Superintendent of Police Harvinder Singh identified the seven arrested accused as:
-
Prince Kumar Gupta
-
Shyam Kumar Singh
-
Ajay Singh
-
Omprakash Pal
-
Jainendra Shukla
-
Golu Kumar
-
Bhupendra Singh
Modus Operandi: Extortion from Behind Bars
Police investigations revealed a sophisticated, multi-layered network designed to bypass local surveillance:
-
Information Gathering: Local operatives collected mobile numbers of high-profile targets, including prominent builders and contractors.
-
The Handlers: This data was passed to key handlers—Rahul Dubey, Mayank Singh, and Prince Khan.
-
The Threat: Extortion calls were allegedly placed either from international locations or from within various prisons to mask the callers’ identities.
-
Collection: The arrested local unit was responsible for collecting the “protection money” and funneling it back to the gang leaders.
The SIT seized multiple mobile phones, various SIM cards, and illegal weapons during the raids.
Restoring Security in the Industrial City
Panic had recently gripped Bokaro after several businessmen received threatening messages from an individual identifying himself as ‘Prakash Shukla’. In response, the City DSP constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT). By leveraging technical surveillance and human intelligence, the SIT successfully traced the local network, leading to the high-stakes arrests.
SP Harvinder Singh emphasized that this crackdown is a significant step toward restoring a sense of security for the business community and curbing the influence of organized extortion gangs in the region.
