Blinkit row sparks unrest in Jamshedpur, Bistupur store asked to vacate

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, Oct 23: What began as a routine parking dispute outside a Blinkit outlet in Jamshedpur has spiraled into a citywide controversy, forcing authorities to act against the quick-commerce giant.

Tensions first erupted near the Blinkit store in Sonari, where locals accused delivery riders of blocking narrow lanes and creating daily traffic chaos.

When a resident confronted store staff, the argument turned violent — leading to stone-pelting, shattered glass, and a night of unrest. Police and Quick Response Teams (QRT) were deployed to disperse the crowd and restore order.

Soon after, a similar incident was reported at the Bistupur outlet, where locals alleged that Blinkit employees misbehaved with a woman who had complained about the parking nuisance. The altercation drew a crowd and nearly led to clashes before police intervened.

In the wake of mounting tensions, the district administration has ordered the Bistupur dark store to vacate the premises within 30 days. Officials confirmed that new citywide regulations are being drafted to control the operation of 10-minute delivery hubs — including parking norms, traffic management, and zoning restrictions.

Residents say they’ve long warned authorities about the chaos caused by unregulated delivery points. “We’ve been complaining for months, but no one took action,” said one resident, adding that public patience has worn thin.

The back-to-back flare-ups in Sonari and Bistupur highlight the growing friction between instant-delivery convenience and crumbling urban infrastructure.

For now, heavy police deployment remains in place, but public anger continues to simmer — demanding clearer rules and greater accountability from both Blinkit and local administrative authorities.
